Making Web pages
If you change the spelling of a mail hyperlink
that you have included in a document, remember to go to the hyperlink
properties for the link, and change the name there as well. Otherwise
people will still get the wrong mailing address brought up. The other way
to change it of course is to delete it and type it over again. The same is true
if you change the spelling of a web address hyperlink.

Checklist of Do's and Don'ts
1. Avoid Gimmicks that do not work on all web browsers
2. Keep download time to a minimum. Be sure graphics are
reduced in pixel size, and graphics are not overused.
3. Don't move your pages to new url's unless absolutely
necessary. If you want people to link to your page, don't make
them have to keep up with you.
4. Don't force people to open a new browser window unless it is for
a specialized purpose. Some Webmasters will remove your link if it
is too bossy.
5. Do not shut down the back button if you don't want
webmasters to take your site off their link list.
6. Check your page's Title as well as its file name.
7. Keep advertising to a minimum and make it tasteful.
8. Don't keep music running on your site unless you want to
limit its use to those who appreciate the same music you do.
9. Keep an Archives if you have information people refer to.
10. Put meta-tags on your site so browsers know how to find
it. (Find meta-tags in the index of your HTML book, or FrontPage, or
Dreamweaver books.)
11. Let people know about you and your business with pictures
and biographies.
12. Let people link to your site freely. Isn't that what
your web site is for, for people to see it? If you are too
protective of your site, don't expect webmasters to link to
it. And most hits on your site will come from other links,
especially from www.wiktel.com
if you are in NW Minnesota or NE North Dakota.
13. Don't do work others have already done. If there are
well constructed sites with the info, link to them rather than redo
the work yourself. (Webmasters, work with and link to wiktel
for events in NW Minnesota and NE North Dakota, since they devote
resources for that purpose.)
