Package
Dialup internet service is a shared service. Providing excellent service at the low rate of $13.95 rate per month depends on customers being fair to Wiktel and courteous to other customers. And that requires following the rules.
Rules
1. Connect to the dial up internet only when you are sending, receiving, or browsing. Disconnect from the internet when you are not browsing, are spending a lot of time composing, or are using other programs on your computer.
2. Do not give out your user name and password to other people. It is immoral and illegal to do that (theft), and it increases the cost of the system to honest users. (Wiktel reserves the right to require customers to change their passwords and/or username from time to time.)
If you have given your password out to other people, change your password. Call your friends and tell them to call Wiktel and order a dial up package for themselves.
3. The Value Package is for one household, and one computer at a time. If you use two computers at a time, you need to pay for two Value packages. Or you can subscribe to the Professional package which permits two connections at one time. The Business/Professional package was meant for businessmen who have a computer at work and a notebook computer that they carry with them. However, households are allowed to subscribe to the $19.95 Professional Package. But it is not proper for a professional package to be used by more than one household, or more than one businessperson in their business (except for negotiated business packages).
If you use two computers at home at one time, call our service department and change your package to the Professional Package.
4. We may require a dial up customer to change their password from time to time. We may require a dial up customer to change their user name.
5. You may not permit your computer to be used as a server, under any circumstances. In other words, no one else on the internet can know your IP address, or otherwise know how to access files on your computer. No one can download a file from your computer. You must contact us and pay higher rates for these services.
6. You may not have your web site on your computer. You must have your web site hosted by us on our servers. There is a modest monthly fee for a domain name web site like www.wiktel.com. Businesses of any size may have to pay additional fees for large amounts of traffic to a web site. If you want your web site on your own computer you must contact us and pay for these additional services.
7. You must pay extra for continuous bandwidth usage. Our lower priced services are meant for occasional downloads. They are not meant for continuous streams of packets. You must pay our fractional T-1 rate if you take up a steady bandwidth into the internet, or if your average usage is equivalent to a fractional T-1 of usage.
8. You may not send out unsolicited email from a wiktel.com address. Unsolicited email (spam) is mail that other people did not ask for, and which most people do not want. It is ok to send out email to a list of people. But you must assure that those people are carefully selected so that it is reasonable that most of them want the email. Having a statement that people can email you and be taken off the list is adequate for a carefully selected list that might want your letter. However, it is not satisfactory for spam.
Many people are angry that they get spam, and it is a significant expense for Wiktel to handle the complaints. It also reflects badly on the wiktel name. We may disconnect an email account until the customer discontinues the practice of sending unsolicited email. Providing internet service is a competitive business, and Wiktel reserves the right to refuse to do business with a customer for any reason.
Any customer who sends out large amounts of email for commercial, organizational, or political purposes is required to establish a domain name of their own and use that domain name for their solicitations. Then they will have to deal with the complaints and those government agencies that regulate unsolicited email themselves. Even with a private domain name, Wiktel refuses to provide service to anyone who engages in spam, pornography, viruses, or any other illegal, immoral, or improper activity.
9. Monthly Commitment: Internet service is payable in advance each month. The customer commits to one month of service each month, and no portion of the monthly charge is refundable if service is disconnected at any time during the month. See monthly commitment.
