Lancaster, MN
Lancaster, which bears the name of a county in England, is located about 10
miles south of the Canadian border on U.S. Highway 59. The arrival of the Soo
Line Railroad, in 1904, officially put Lancaster on the map. The area had been
settled earlier by Canadian and European immigrants in the 1890's because of its
location between the prairies to the west and the forested region to the east.
There are a number of businesses and services in Lancaster including a school
which serves students kindergarten through 12th grade. The beautiful City Park
has facilities for camping, hiking, biking or cross country skiing. Lancaster is
also home to Riverside Golf Club, a nine hole grass green golf course on the
north side of town. The area surrounding Lancaster has 200 miles of
groomed snowmobile trails and is well known for its excellent hunting. The
area is highly regarded in the state for deer, moose and water fowl.
