Lake Bronson is located between Lancaster and Karlstad on U.S. Highway
59 near the center of Kittson County. A number of businesses line the
street downtown as a convenience for residents of the area. The city
also has a tennis court, basketball court, 2 softball fields and
playground equipment in the park.
In the early 1930's, a severe drought made it necessary to
obtain a more permanent water supply for the region. The solution to
this problem was a dam on the south fork of the Two River which created
a man-made lake east of town. It was at this time that the name Bronson
was changed to Lake Bronson.
A number of recreational activities are available in the area.
The Lake
Bronson State Park is located 2 miles to the east. Visitors to the
park have access to camping, swimming, water skiing, fishing, hiking and
biking trails and nature programs. For those who enjoy
snowmobiling, Lake Bronson is among 200 miles of groomed trails. Hunting
is excellent in the area as deer, moose and water fowl are abundant.
One of the county's fine attractions is the Kittson County
History Center Museum which can be found on the east side of town. The
exhibits are excellent for people of all ages to enjoy.
