Kennedy has a population of 321 and is located on U.S. Highway 75 between Hallock and Donaldson. The economic development of Kennedy and the surrounding area has always been related to farming and its related businesses.
The history of Kennedy dates back to 1878, when the St. Paul and Pacific Railway constructed its line to St. Vincent. It was shortly after this time, on June 15th 1899, that the village of Kennedy was incorporated.
It was because of  John Stewart Kennedy, railway director and banker, and his association with James J. Hill that Kennedy received its name. John Stewart Kennedy was a native of Scotland, who came to America in 1856. He was well known for his humanitarian efforts.
